This is my experience in trying to find dog food for my dogs. I tried the Humane Society and they gave me the number to Liz said she is a volunteer; who in turn lead me to call Animal Trustees of Austin.

I supplement my dog kibble with cooked oatmeal, Iams canned food (3 cans) and lots of canned vegetables-carots, sweet potatoes(drained and rinsed if in sugar syrup) as well as cooked chicken or beef to make up a base and it last me about a week and very inexpensive to make too. Then I put dog kibble on top of it. It goes along way too and I got the recipe from a local vet technician which has been a lifesaver for my 2 large dogs Spot (pit bull) and Bella (Presa Canaria). Hope that helps your folks too.

Thank you for this helpful post. My cat just went on a restricted diet and I had a lot of quality cat food left over that he won't be able to eat. I wasn't sure if the SPCA would take dry cat food, especially some bags that had been opened. Because I found this post while looking this issue up on the Web, I was able to direct my dry cat food to someone in need rather than throwing it away. Thanks!
