Hey Monica,
Great post. SW KEY is a GEM of the East Side and I am happy to see them expand even more. Everyone knows that our children are the future. However our Austin graduation rate is horrible. SW Key is taking a stand to change all that. I applaud them

[...] In the latest issue of GivingCity we ran a story about the thousands of state employees who donate millions each year to Central Texas charities. We made this sample of different organization’s contributions from a random selection of agencies. I thought the contrast between the different agencies was shocking – even after you take into account the number of employees per agency. In the magazine I had to make this graphic fit to the spread, but I made this version so that I could show all the information unhindered by the page-size. After realizing I had all this empty space on the right, I also decide to place the actual pages from the story on the graphic – they remain readable. You can see the original after the jump, or download the whole issue here. [...]

Monica, I would like to talk with you about doing one of these stories you don't have time for - a one-time "will write for almost no money, because it's my passion" offer!

Just ask Christine Cox about my writing. And, my dependability as a writer.

Hope to hear from you - great e-magazine,
Terri Schexnayder

Dear Monica,
Thanks for sending this. It's the first issue I've seen, and I like it. After editing The Good Life magazine for 11-1/2 years --before crashing and burning after putting out the January 2009 edition, due to the economy--I can really appreciate your labor of love in starting up in a new and far cheaper format. I wish you the best of luck in this new venture.

I'm starting my own new venture, The Austin Bulldog, an initiative of the Austin Investigative Reporting Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. It will be online only, doing investigative reporting focused on Austin. It will be my third startup publication, my first nonprofit, and I'm really excited about getting back to my roots in hard-nose investigative reporting.

Thanks again for what you're doing with GivingCity.

I've ridden in 2 "cause" rides: MS 150 & Livestrong so far and will continue to move forward because others I know can't.

MS:
I wish that you would have known that I couldn't have gotten through 80 miles that beautiful day without you in my mind, telling me to keep going. I wish we had known each other, but I'm blessed to be a good friend of your son and even more blessed to have the ability to ride that far for something so important.

Livestrong:
Oh dad, I think you'd have been absolutely blown away by the love and inspiration that was shared this past Sunday. So many survivors riding along side so many of us that lost the people we love the most was tear-jerking but also empowering. I made it through those crazy-ass hills because of your memory and your love. I can't wait to keep on rolling for you.
