Austin’s mental illness needs – and who’s addressing them

The I Live Here, I Give Here campaign has been running a regular feature on its Web site that walks you through a particular issue and introduces the nonprofit organizations that address the issue. The features are a great way to get a big-picture look at a particular need in Central Texas and help donors and volunteers identify a nonprofit to support.

Their feature on mental illness, “Mental Illness: Changing Attitudes, Changing Lives,” is particularly useful. The background information sets the stage for introducing the nonprofits, particularly those that help Central Texas youth.

Did you know, for example, that, according I Live Here, I Give Here, “One in five children has a diagnosable emotional disorder, and one in 10 has a serious disorder, yet only one-third will receive appropriate care?”

Not only is the need for mental healthcare overwhelming, the need for care in our Spanish-speaking population is growing. This feature is good reading, folks. Find out how you can help today.
